Files Police Report - Alleges
BP Criminally Abused Animals
(New Orleans, LA) The
Executive Director of the Humane
Society of Louisiana, Jeff Dorson,
filed a police report yesterday
with the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's
Department, alleging that BP violated
several Parish ordinances hundreds
of times since the April 20th
blowout of the Deepwater Horizon
Oil Rig. The report alleges that
BP violated the parish animal
cruelty codes and the ordinances
that specifically prohibit the
exposure of poisonous materials,
the avoidance of mistreatment
of animals, and the littering
of waterways.

(New Orleans, LA) --
Due to the BP Deepwater Horizon
oil spill and the adverse effect
on the coastal region and its
marine life inhabitants, the
Humane Society of Louisiana
will be offering workshops in
the New Orleans area and throughout
the state to deal with the influx
of injured and displaced marine
and wildlife. Individuals who
wish to house and treat injured
marine and wildlife must be
licensed by the state, through
the Department of Wildlife and
Fisheries. To house and treat
migratory birds or federally
protected animals, caretakers
must also be licensed by the
US Department of Wildlife and
Fisheries.
"We have an immediate need
for more licensed and experienced
wildlife rehabilitators and
we must be ready and prepared
to handle tens of thousands
of animals and birds or more
during the next several years,"
says Jeff Dorson, HSL Director.
"I am in the process of
applying for a permit myself.
I need to learn the process
and try to help animals and
birds on our local level, since
the need is so great. I am converting
part of my garage to a modest
intake and recovery center for
injured wildlife. I can house
and treat 3-4 animals at a time,
and I will encourage hundreds
of other individuals to do the
same. I see this as part of
our personal duty, since the
oil spill has affected all of
our ways of life," adds
Dorson.
The first introductory workshop
will be held on Monday, July
12th, at Jefferson Feed and
Seed, located at 4421 Jefferson
Ave, Jefferson, Louisiana, from
6: 30 to 8: 30 pm. Registration
fee is $10.00. For more information,
call 1-888-6-humane.
