Help the Humane Society paws-itively recover and build a better shelter! Since our New Orleans shelter was destroyed in Katrina, we’ve been ‘ruff-ing it’ with a makeshift animal care facility in nearby Tylertown, MS.

Recently named the Dixieland Animal Care and Evacuation Center, this largely undeveloped site has served both as our primary shelter facility and as a staging ground for disaster relief programs during Katrina, Rita and Gustav.

A rainbow over our Dixieland Center symbolizes our hopes and dreams for the future

HSL needs your help to develop our Tylertown property and finally recover our hurricane losses! Our shelter facility will double as a needed pet evacuation and hurricane disaster relief center for the region. The property will also house the Katrina Survivor's Sanctuary, a refuge for 125 animals rescued from New Orleans during our nation's worst national disaster. These animals could not be reuinted with families, and we have so far been unable to be successfully adopt them due to health and behavior issues.

To accomplish these goals, HSL must raise $800K to fund major construction. Won’t you please help us? Donors at each level will help us move one paw print closer towards meeting our goal. Click HERE to find out more about our plans for the Dixieland Center.

Paws to Rebuild campaign donors will also be recognized here on our web site, in our newsletter and in a permanent display at Tylertown.

SPONSORSHIP OPPORTUNITIES (pdf)

Once we build a great new shelter facility, HSL’s dream is to open a statewide Cruelty Investigations Bureau in the city of New Orleans, where we’ve continued operating diverse programs since 1988.
